View Full Version : TGR - Online Avi Training...
The Online Avalanche Class by TGR Lead Guide, Jim Conway (http://www.tetongravity.com/conwayscorner/avilesson.htm)
Kewl. I had to hit "Fast Forward" and I'm not sure if the quiz has more than one question... I could only answer one. And I got it right!
So I am now a seasoned veteran and can ignor all avalanch warnings! </sarcasm>
Things like this are very good, there just too hard to make. Maybe if more tools were made specifically for this sorta online training... blah blah blah.. I'm at home, no worky.

TGR adds to the knowledge base...very nice. I have to agree about the lack of more quiz questions being a disappointment

Pretty rudimentary stuff, but very cool presentation of the material. I'd like to see them develop some more of those with higher level avi content. Nice start though... I agree, more questions at the end would have been better, but then again, they really only presented one topic--pathfinding.
I sent them a note. Hopefully there will be more.
TGR replies:
Rob - thanks for the input. If we have our way, we will do 23 more lessons. Everything from crevasse identification to snow evaluation. We just need to get it funded. It's pretty darn time consuming to do this type of development. In the end, we want people to know that this isn't a game and that safety is the most important thing. EVER. If helping educate people about the skills they need to acquire helps push that vibe, then we've done well.
Thanks again for the input.

Who is good at writing grants? These guys need some dough. I'd like to see them produce the thing.
How much you figure then need? Maybe we can do a fund raiser or something. We can sell goggels for like 3x their cost and give the proceedes to avalanch research and education.
We'll need a foundation, and a kewl name. How a bout the FemSki Foundation for Avalanch Education ? Dedicated to collecting money that is sure to be spent. (On something useful and educational of course) I bet I can setup a paypal account, would our fine host Dave put a link to the PayPal donation account on the T4T site somehwere? Or is that against our founders purposes.

It seems that they already have the license for Flash. I assume all the money they need is for man-hours. I guess it would all depend on how much tey think there time is worth to do it? Crap, I can do Flash... Someone wants to pay me to do it, I'll still need some help on the storyboards and script. DMC, are you in?

Hey -
Now your talking my other language. I do flash as well. With a background in visual communication I've done alot of story boarding and some scripting.
Hey folks, I get the impression that they have some more stuff already to go. Y'all might want to check on where they are at.

DMC, are you in? I know Flash... It is very time consuming..
I have at least 3 Tuckerman Maps in the can but not quite finished yet....
This is the only one I ever did professionally..
My Flash Interactive Ski Map (http://www.huntermtn.com/intermap.htm)
And it would've been better but the client was tough to make happy...

Yeah, Flash can be a pain in the butt. It's a lot of fun though!
Here's my only published flash:

Did some interactive flash/asp integration stuff... but it's pathetically boring.
