Credit to RR for the subject title. Saw this today and got very depressed:
"As of this past Saturday, Mount Washington was a staggering 7.4 degrees (F) warmer than the average November, 6.71 inches of liquid precipitation dryer then the average November and a whopping three feet of snow behind
where we should be."
I console myself with the thought that these things have a way of equaling out, and that perhaps December/Jan/Feb hold epic days in store for us.
Ullr, hear our prayer.

rog
it will come.
It certainly will...
that said, feel free to toast Ullr this week as we are giving Thanks...

Henry posted this distressing tidbit on his blog today:
CLIMATE...
STILL NO MEASURABLE SNOW SO FAR THIS SEASON OVER MOST OF WESTERN NEW YORK.
WE ARE ALREADY OVER TWO WEEKS LATE (NORMAL DATES ARE NOV. 7 BUFFALO AND
NOV. 8 ROCHESTER). WE WILL AT LEAST GET TO FRIDAY (27TH) AND IF SO...WILL
BE LATEST IN 61 YRS (1948) AT BUFFALO...AND LATEST IN 46 YRS (1963) AT
ROCHESTER. THE ALL-TIME RECORD LATEST DATES FOR FIRST MEASURABLE SNOW ARE
DEC. 3, 1899, AT BUFFALO AND DEC, 10, 1948, AT ROCHESTER. WE WILL NOT LIKELY REACH THOSE DATES AS THE WEATHER PATTERN LOOKS COLDER WITH SOME SNOW THREAT BEGINNING LATER FRIDAY.
IN ADDITION, IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE EITHER BUFFALO OR
ROCHESTER LAST SAW MEASURABLE SNOW. THROUGH YESTERDAY, BUFFALO
HAS GONE 230 DAYS WITHOUT MEASURABLE SNOW, OR SINCE APRIL 7,
2009. THIS IS THE 5TH LONGEST STRETCH IN 125 YEARS OF RECORDS.
THE RECORD IS 245 DAYS SET BACK IN 1948. ROCHESTER IS ALSO AT 230
DAYS WITHOUT MEASURABLE SNOW, OR THE 6TH LONGEST STRETCH THERE.
THE RECORD IS 260 DAYS SET BACK IN 1952. IF WE REMAIN SNOW FREE
THROUGH THANKSGIVING, BOTH ROCHESTER AND BUFFALO WILL END UP WITH
THE THIRD LONGEST STRETCH OF SNOW-FREE DAYS ON RECORD. STAY TUNED.

With the great lakes staying warmer this year when the cold north westerlies finally swing in the lake effect snow machine will be working overtime.

I've heard a lot of people getting their knickers in bunches due to the lack of snow. You know what? I'm over it. We've been blessed with some amazing early seasons in the past few years, but we need a reality check every now and then. The weather has been gorgeous, by the way. It hasn't been raining non-stop. It's been sunny and 50. Great days to go ride a bike or take a hike. Absolutely stellar! I'll ski when it starts to snow, thanks (I already have twice).
For now, I'm gonna ride the flow and deal with this horrendously gorgeous weather by using it to its full potential. I'm dreaming 'bout snowflakes every night, and I can't wait until a cloak of innocence drapes the mountains and envelopes my vision - but for now I'm content with what the weather gods have thrown my way. :skicool:
Based on boardman's depressing post, a suggestion for renaming the title of this thread. :(

just got off the phone with my buddy whose supposed to spend thanksgiving in targhee, but he's pondering whether the 9 hour drive is worth it with only a few feet in the backcountry and booting....

Just had my knee scoped yesterday, so I'm o.k. if this ends up being a back-loaded season. I'd rather an above average March than an above average November. These things do have a tendency to even out, especially in an El Nino year which seem to favor late season snows IIRC. Still plenty of time left. Hoping that with 4-6 weeks of PT I'll be good to go by the time the woods start shaping up nicely. In the meantime, I'll have a little percocet toast to Ullr for the rest of you.
