Taking queue from JolyJ mini disc player... let's bring up the tuckerman song list.

I've got a little Mp3 player (pack weight wise it's nothing), that is great for countering the snoring... well, most of it.

The first year we camped up there, 1999, I had Pink Floyd's Shine on You Crazy Diamond, and it was excellent. Sitting on the deck with the moonlight hitting Hillman's it really was a nice sound track.

I'd also recommend Barber's Adiago. A choral rendition is very nice, but the string version is good too. Same sort of effect. Both songs are kinda trippy.

Last hike I took up to Tuckerman, I played Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon album. I swear, they made that album for hiking the TR trail, everything went together perfectly!! You just have to make sure to start the disc right at the third roar of the lion...

I got a Minidisk.. I use it when I ride and to record live concerts... I havent brought it up for the last couple of trips..

If I did - I'd probably have some Grateful Dead/Phish/Marley to motivate me and some Jon Scofield or "Medeski Martin and Wood" to mellow me out. Maybe bring a Trip Hop disk as well..

When I ride on the East Coast - I like to listen to "roots" reaggae and hip hop/funk.. The Beastie Boys get me pretty stoked..

When I ride out West I tend to gravitate to more Grateful Dead, "Newgrass" and Jazz... I always shut the tunes off before riding reeeealllly technical stuff... Just cause I want to hear any warnings etc...

PS - Floyd Fans... I got a sweet copy of Animals done live... Absolutely incredible show..
I'll gladly send someone a copy if interested..

I DJ in a club so I just before a trip I just record my set onto a couple disks. It's pretty funny hearing me talking over top of the music. And when I turn the mic on sometimes you can hear the crowd in the background which can kind of pump you up a bit. Mostly Hip Hop and Dance music, seems to give me some energy or at least the rhythm. The mini disc player is pretty cool, it's extremely light and portible, I usally hang it from my shoulderstrap on my pack when hiking. One AA Battery will last 15 hours or something crazy like that.

At regular speed - 2 disks.

I have lots of Allman Brothers and Govmt Mule that I've recorded myself... I think I may record The Dead and Willie Nelson tomorrow at the show in Camden NJ...

DMC, I would love a copy of that Floyd! Do you have it in .shn format (and an FTP site I can download it from...)? :)

Or is it B&P? I will send you a copy of my show list as soon as I get home. I have mostly Dead/moe./Phish, but also have some killer Karl Denson, DJ Logic, JGB, and various other jam band type stuff...

All the new Live Phish is going to be FLAC... I think the SHN people were going to start charging them for using SHN.. I don't blame them for trying... Phish has been making a killing on the live downloads. What a great concept, although I still like getting my music for free.

Yeah - No doubt......I wonder how many other people out there on this big world have collections of good music on non-tech media....

I dont have a tape deck in my truck (I dont think my last 2- 3 cars have come with a tape deck), so i can only listen to at home.....but theres worst fates in the world than having to listen to good music on old media :)

I got a box of Dead shows on tape somewhere...
I got a few 8 tracks around as well... Just don't have anything to play them on... :)

I know lots of people that collect analog.. I know a guy that tapes shows on his DAT and refuses to dump the shows onto CD... He just spins tapes... Old School...

Are tape and this other stuff like DVD new things?? When did 8-tracks go out?? I was just starting to think of figuring a way to bring a portable generator so that I can bring my 8-track player with me to Tucks. Nothing is better than hearing that giant "CLICK" in the middle of a song as it changes to the next track!!! Have fun, be safe. Al :skistooge:

8-TRACK? What is an 8-TRACK? Is that one of those things I saw in the Smithsonian with the crank on the side? :D

8-Tracks rocked! At least as long as you remembered to keep a book of matched with you to wedge in between the tape and the housing to adjust the azimuth of the head. To all that refuse to give up their 8-Track collections: Keep them! They will be back! So will polyester shirts and lots of gold chains for around the neck! Pet Rocks will resurface, too. As will the greatest band of all time: Wham! And to think, my mind STILL works like this even after giving up drugs back in '87! OK, prattle now comes to an end. Have fun, be safe. Al :skistooge:

I've never used music when I hike, as I'm usually with someone else and there is exciting conversation going on ("how much farther, do you think?" *huff, huff* "Not too much ("huff") I hope..."). But I bike alone most of the time and listen to anything with a beat that keeps my pedals turning fast.
