Liftopia has Jay tickets for $12 for 11/27, the scheduled opening day. Non-refundable. Mother nature has some say as to whether they'll be open but I'll be in Newport for Thanksgiving anyhow so I'll take the gamble and get enough for the family to go. We closed out the season for lift served last year at Jay and we'll get it started at Jay this year.

Thanks for the heads-up. I opened last season at Jay. Went up for the day...stayed for a week...conditions got better with each new day! Slept in the car mostly, but I did get to spend a couple of nights in a slope side condo! We were hiking to the summit for some of the best powder of the season...untouched!

Friday is the cheapest but they also have discounted tics for the days following. I wish I could stay longer but it's not in the cards..... gotta come home Saturday. :( I've hit some awsome powder dumps in mid December there. Very few people. Just gotta be careful because the creeks aren't filled in and they come out of nowhere. CREEK! JUMP!:D

The snow is coming but it's gonna be here too late for Black Friday skiing at Jay. The weather forecast is calling for some pretty good accumulation through the weekend up north. Got an email from Liftopia.....they're refunding my money for Jay tix for Friday. A pleasant surprise.

I will be up there this weekend. Lifts or no lifts. Especially no lifts :)

Actually, it is definitely no lifts as Jay has announced on their web site that this weekend is a no go. Surprised they did not leave open the possibility for Sunday opening depending on how much snow they receive. But they have not made any snow on the lower half of Jet and Haynes so there is no base and water bar issues even with potentally 6-12".

Any one else heading up there this weekend? Not sure which day, Sunday for sure though maybe Saturday too? May stick closer to home if the higher snowfall totals are more wide spread to include the Whites such as Cannon.

bleh. no base, no go for me. a lot of snow will have to fall to provide good skiing. the ground isn't even frozen yet. sunday river will be where the skiing is till we get some real snow on a real base. most areas will prob get mosltly rain outta this one.

I might be there as well. It will depend on how much snow will fall and if I can find skiable conditions closer from where I live. Will be coming from Canada. Probably looking for sunday as well

i'm just not seeing that much snow to cover all of the unfrozen ground, grass, and rocks from this weekends event. maybe 6-8 inches at the most favored locations. end of next week and beyond could be another story.

Don't forget that all that new snow on Upper Jet and Haynes will be falling on wall to wall base with no thin coverage. It ain't 3' deep base any more but it was two weeks ago and just like T2 at SR... it didn't all melt. For the rest of the mountain? Eh, 6-8" takes care of most of the issues and if a rock is hit while chasing powder, who cares.

Some forecasts are calling for 12"+ by Sunday. S'all good if you want to nay say... you'll be looking at my pics Sunday night and can judge for yourself. ;) :D

I'm in for whichever day looks better. We'll talk when we have a better idea of what's going down. You still have the same cell phone as last season, right?

Yup, I still have your cell. Keep me posted if you want to hook up for turns. I am looking at either Cannon or Jay. I imagine Sunday would be the better day but we'll see how fast the storm moves. Jay Sat and Cannon Sun could be an option as well... or just Jay Sun if they get the 2' Scott is pegging as the max. Or just make the call on the drive up through the notch.

Her I sit in Derby, VT with about 1/2 inch on the ground. The wind has been blowing all night. When we were up at Jay yesterday afternoon the rain was just starting to turn to snow around 2PM. More like clumpy rain. The top of the mountain was pretty socked in but you could see the snow on Jet and Haynes. Still snowing lightly down here.

If anyone skis Cannon today, I'd love to hear a report! I'm actually thinking of paying $15 at BW on Sun just to see what my muscles remember from last year--although I'd prefer to skin. Actually, given that I'm getting over a T-Day cold, lifts might be a better option. :)

Cannon had 12-18" of really dense/heavy base building type snow. So heavy you could not hit bottom unless you skied in someone elses tracks, and then only maybe. For perspective, I charged Paulie's hard and hit nothing (marvelous turns on the middle of Paulie's). Up top, the top 1/3 trails generally had 3' drifts on one side and bare rock on the other side.

Bring your fatties and lap the Front Face! Don't expect many completely untracked slots though... still plenty of untracked but you can't ski a run without hitting another track at this point.
