ah yes, opening day at Kmart. The lovely 4am wake up... driving through rutland while it is still dark out, chain smoking for fear of falling asleep at the wheel somewhere near lake george.
yeahhhhhh im in (yawn)

When the trucks are the only way up the lower part of the mtn I have this plan to bogart the upper lift with no ticket. There is a cross country/backcountry ski trail called the Catamount that goes off the back of the mountain and ends up near rutland, I can get my jeep to within 500 feet of the summit going up it. I have always wanted to drive up it in the fall and emerge from the woods on rime and just hop on the lift.

Can u read topos?
The trail follows eddys brook in the middle of the photo and terminates 500 ft SW of K-Peak:

Count me in! (if I'm not :atwork: ) Unfortunately, I don't know Killington, so I'll have to tag along with everyone and look completely lost.

It remains quite better than nothing, though ;)

kmrnskier,

Don't worry, the only trail open on the first day is Superstar, aka Stupidstar. Impossible to get lost, it just goes straight down.

Thanks for making me feel better guys - I figured they'd have more then 1 trail open, at least 2!! I'm still in though. By the way, as for me getting lost, I AM the stereotypical woman - give me directions to Maine, and I'd probably end up in Pennsylvania!!

Not to sound like Cliff Claven here...
But as Frank said, the first trails at KMart that open are the Rhime and another(I froget the name) in the "glades" area..

But still - you can't get lost...

Thanks for making me feel better guys - I figured they'd have more then 1 trail open, at least 2!! Well, Killington will *count* it as two or three trails. Basically, if Trail A is open and trail B cuts through trail A, then K-mart counts trail A as two trails ("upper A" and "lower A"). This is so even if Trail B is unskiable and only trail A is open. If two trails cut through A, than A= 3 trails as per K-mart accounting. Actually, their accountants must be Arthur Andersen.

Hey there nahhhhmy...

Yeah Killingtons rollout is always Rime first up in the glades area, they will also try to blow upper east glade for use as a mini terrain park. Sometimes the man made that blows off east glade will be enought to let people on upper dipper too. If its cold enough to go all the way to the bottom, they will have Great Northern all the way down. A green trail yes, but with only a foot of snow on it those drainage ditches can be fun.

Surfer I think you meant Superstar is the last trrail to close, its just too low on the mountain to blow snow for an opening. At least Rime gets seriously bumped early on anyway.

Oh and Matt I am gonna be up at K that weekend for brewfest. A guys gotta do the fall foliage couples thing, ya heard me? :hummer: (shhhh ill bring my skis too)

RR

Obviousman to the rescue!!!

If there's only one way down it's only one trail.

Pet Peeve: catwalks aren't trails, a tree island doesn't turn one trail into three, a trail with more than one "section" is still one trail!

Rant over!

Don't say nothing is a double negative Frank. That means say something.

Don't say nothing is a double negative Frank. That means say something. Uhh?? why do you say this Elwood ? :p :D
Thanks, in french too, it would mean this, but we always use this particular double negative without thinking it changes the sense of our thought.

Well plenty of people in America would say "don't say nothing", but those people are challenged by speaking anyway...
