Hello Everyone
My brother is getting married soon. As the best man, my gift to him is to take him and his friends to Tuckerman (we're all serious skiers, but first time to Tuckerman). So I'm trying to find a good hotel for saturday night - within 25 miles or so. We're looking for a place that's a little nicer than the cheap motel, and bigger than a bed and breakfast. After the ski day, we'd like to go to a nice restaurant for a big dinner, then to a bar and/or hotel. Its not a "bachelor party" in the typical sense at all - i want to make it nice and classy for my bro, but we also want to be able to celebrate the occasion. We would travel farther than 25 miles if necessary, maybe go to a bigger town, or to a ski resort town if that's the only way to have some apres ski options. *I did notice the Tuckerman's Brewery - which sounds like a good place to check out before dinner. So I'm wondering if anyone has hotel/restuarant/bar ideas that would be appropriate. I am grateful for any advice.
Many thanks
Brian

Hi bburke,

The Royalty Inn is pretty nice (Gorham) which is one of the better Motels. Has an indoor pool also.

You might also consider Attitash Mountain Village. They provide Condo style accommodations if thats ok. Have dining facilities and can accommodate group events. Has a bar also and a GREAT outdoor large hottub so you wouldn't have to have people driving around the mountains in the dark after partying.
Otherwise choose something in North Conway. Check out our links to accomodations here (http://timefortuckerman.com/links.html).

Best restaurant I know over in the area is the Red Fox Pub and Restaurant (http://www.redfoxpub.com/) but there are a few others in North Conway which others on the board may suggest.

Tuckerman Brewery is a small brewery and has no bar facilities... they have a mini store front where you can by souvenirs such as glasses and t-shirts, thats it.

Shannondoors (I always get the spelling wrong) is one of our favorites for apres-ski. Its a rustic Irish pub in Jackson, about 15-20 min south of Pinkham Notch.

My 2 cents worth anyhows.

Cheers

Dave

Tuckerman Brewery: Call first, let them know your coming and they'd probably be happy to give you a tour. It's a family type biz, no bar, but you'll get a sample or two for your trouble of stopping by. They let me help on the bottling (http://www.weirdtable.org/~m/monthpics/2002-03/DCP_7411.JPG) line last year when I stopped.

I spent a week at Attitash Grand Summit Hotel, and it's pretty hoity-toity. Very nice hotel and outdoor pool. Bit too expensive though. A group rate late season might work though.

Red Parka Pub might be a good place to go. The bar is a pretty typical ski-bar with lots of character, but it also has a restaurant that looks nicer. It's in conway I think.

Great idea for bachelor party... should make some excellent pictures, and plenty to talk about at the wedding. "Dood! You remember Bob's faceplant?"

Encourage the non-skiers to come, and carry beers, and bring innertubes (and helmets.)

Great pix Matt!

I'm still waiting for Nik to start producing the Headwall Al which is supposed to feature one of my T4T photos on the label... now that was about 3 or 4 years ago.. who knows.

How about the Mount Washington Hotel for hoity-toity... not my style but hey, nice view of Mt Washington.

How about going up the cog for a bachelor party and slide boarding down?

Going to be a dad soon huh? congrats! Bet your counting on the days before you can bring him/her up on your back to Tucks. I waiting 11 years before I brought my son up. He didn't appreciate the 50mph winds however...

Hey Dave:

I'm gonna bring a 2yr old hiking soon... but prob not to Tux. I'm thinking in the next few weeks as a warm up to the 50+pnd pack that has to go up to Hermit Lake.

Failed to get her on Skiis this year. I guess it's not too late... maybe I'll head to Wal-mart at lunch looking for the strap on things just to get her thinking about it.

Hi BBURKE,

North Conway is a great place to stay and about 20-25 minutes away from Pinkham Notch. Many choices of accommodations and eateries.

My gang always stays at the Cranmore Mountain Lodge on Kearsarge Road (a little off the beaten track). It's very much like a bed and breakfast (so maybe not what you're looking for) but it's nicely decorated and used to be owned by Babe Ruth's daughter. They still have the room that the Babe liked to stay in unchanged.

The place is an old farm house with a pool and outdoor hot tub, perfect for after hike soaks. The couple that took over the place early 2002 (Kevin and Jean) are really great and cook a mean breakfast.

A great restaurant in town is Bellini's. The food is fantastic if you like Italian, portions are huge... and watch out for the very LARGE chocolate martinis!

Have fun!
