My friend and I are hoping to come up for Memorial Day weekend this year to finally make our first trip up to Tuckerman's but first want to do some preliminary research. We meant to come last year until a knee surgery stole my season from me, and would've rather come up earlier in May this year, but schedule conflicts are keeping that from happening. Between us we've got 33 years skiing experience (13 for me, 20 for him), and we've both heard plenty of stories from previous generations that have made the hike, so it's about damn time we make our mark.

I'm starting to wonder if we waited too long this season though. I've heard some rumors that the snow might not be too skiable by the time Memorial Day comes around. So I'm hoping the regulars here might be able to shed a little light on the subject for me. Is it still going to be a good time to hit it on Memorial Day weekend, or are we better off waiting until next year? Any and all advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

While it was an unusually sunny March with very little snow and there have been a few major rain events in the past few weeks, it is still a bit far off to accurately predict what that weekend will look like in the bowl. There was the year that there was 100" of snow in May alone...Also unusual I will grant you, but you just never know? I always try to think positive, make sacrifices to ULLR whenever possible and hope for the best! :happyhiker:

There will be some snow...you won't know if it is worth it to you until you go and see.

I am going to be up in Franconia for a bachelor party that weekend, and while everyone else is golfing I may throw the skis in the car and hike up and see what I find...

like RR said sometimes you just have to roll the dice..
