DMC: Talk to me of this expander panel... I have also expanded. my Kelty 20deg bag is just a wee bit too short, i.e. if I'm in mummy mode and I stretch out I could rip the thing.

I need a mini-stove for next year. I've been using a single burner that attaches to those green propane cans you normally only use car-camping. That's a couple pounds I could make go away.

DMC: Talk to me of this expander panel... I saw a Northface catalog.... I've been thinking about replacing my Blue Kazoo bag.. It keeps me warm enough but I need more space for things like storing nalgenes and boot liners... That and to be more comfy...

I digress--- I saw this expander thing - it fits into any NF bag... Expands it by like 9" and is filled with Polarguard.. Cost around $30 bucks...

I should call Steve Nuegibar(sp)and ask him to setup a day at Tucks in the Winter when we can all get together and learn self arrest with the axe's.....

Steve was my avi trainer... The guy knows his stuff... We tried to set a class up last year but couldnt get enough people...

I think the expander panels are $24.99 at www.campmor.com (http://www.campmor.com)

It's a good investment for those of us who seem to get wider as the years go on.

DMC, if you organize a self-arrest class, I am so there...

Hi- I'm an avid reader ( along with my son), but a one-timer at Tuck's. How essential is an ice-axe ??? :iceaxe:

you will hear mixed reports about the pros and cons of :iceaxe: at TR. It's is probably more important for the Gulf where you ski down, then have to hike up out you don't get out.
Most people do TR without one - at least later in the spring... The earlier in the season the greater the need. It's all relative. When were you planning to hike up?

Only two sherpas? You must be going up without elwood and DMC...they need an extra one to carry their chocolate.

I hope to get a new Sleeping Bag & Pad setup. It's been getting colder and colder every time I sleep in it. Also need a water filter. Less water to carry = More beer to carry :-)

Yeah, that's it, wear a Sumo suit and slide the headwal. Or better yet, set up some Tua Sumo,s and try to avoid lunch rocks while attemting a Sumo Squared descent of the Sluice!

Don't you forget the "crazy carpet" ?? :D

Thanks for the idea of the ice axe, I didn't think to that.

For the crampons, is it really necessary in the ravine ? I guess it's depending of what you're going to hike ?

Careful frankoncrampons on the way down with that :iceaxe: . Best to pack it safely away...

As a hard booter, unless it's all ice, no sweat. Crampons would be overkill.

On the other hand, if they fit your ski boots, those morning climbs up the "still very firm" are a lot easier with crampons.

If the sun comes out, the corn gets plastic enough for step kicking w/o pons and on a mushy day, hardly any kicking at all.
