My buddy wants to head up and ski tuck's the day of the inferno.

As much as I'd like to be a part of it, I am hesitant due to parking.

I am sure the main lot at pinks will fill up quick.

How early in the morning would we have to show up to secure a spot?

Where is the next parking lot, and how far is it from pinks?

There's usually a shuttle from the Wildcat parking lot... I did a quick search on the FriendsOfTuckermanRavine site - and the inferno handbook and couldn't find any information - but you should be able to find it somewhere.

If anyone else has verification of this - post it.

Last year we parked on a grassy area on the right of the Northbound side of 16 just about a 1/4 mile before the bridge just shy of the Pinkham lots. We rolled in about 7:00 and Pinks was full and this overflow area was filling up fast.

Yes, last year on Inferno day there was a shuttle from the Wildcat ski area.
I know that people were already parking in Wildcat by 10:00, possibly sooner.

Hey what's going on? Probably heading to Tux this weekend from central VT Friday am.

Is it going to be real difficult to get a camping spot if we arrive early Friday?

Honestly is Friday just as bad as Sat, Sun? If so what time is a good time to get there to secure a spot in the lot on Friday, 6:00am? Just doing a day hike up skiing the bowl, and hope to ski the shurburne down as far as we can.

Friday is nothing like Saturday. Still can be pretty busy, but if you're up for the day and not worried about securing a lean to spot at HoJos then you should be fine. Certainly can't say for sure, but I'd be surprised if the Pinkham lot filled Friday morning.
As to skiing in the bowl, just keep in mind that Friday they'll be setting up the race course (most likely on Left Gully). Of course it won't be "closed" but unless you catch it in the morning you'll have plenty of company on the run.

So if you were looking to reserve a lean-to for the weekend would you say 6, 6:30 Friday morning is a safe bet? I'm assuming Saturday morning is basically out of the question?

We are planning on going for the day on Sunday? Is there a lot of spillover from the Inferno on Saturday or is parking mostly back to normal?

well considering that pinkham opens at 6, I would guess you'd be ok...

FYI last year on inferno wekend, we opted to hike in thurs night as there were only a few spots left and didn't feel like waking at the crack of dawn in the parking lot to wait in line and maybe get a ticket .

6 is better than 6:30
and will you get a spot? can't say for sure...it's a whole nuther year.
and no, i am willing to bet the farm that you ain't getting a spot saturday morning.

enjoy

hey guys, have a question. It'll be my first time at Tucks Sat. and I'll be driving up Friday and staying over. Is it okay to park in the Wildcat lot and walk from there? I've never been up there so I'm not sure how far that is or anything. Thanks!

I think what coreyb meant if you clicked on the link was, its .8 miles away, which will be added to your 2.4 mile hike up, so if that's your cup of coffee than go for it dude.

He laid out the mileage and everything, no need to get cranky

And on the first page of this thread M@ stated:

not trying to sound cranky, just doesn't seem like there'd be a better option for parking

Just get there as early as humanly possible. Yesterday is not too early. Shelters were 75% full as of Thursday night, and are probably fully booked now. There was a line of overflow parked cars down the road today, and it was not even the weekend and the Inferno hasn't even started yet. As the AMC chick said to our dinner group at the lodge last night: If you already had a parking spot you may be able to sell it to the highest bidder later on.
