Well, they dropped the rope today, we had made a couple laps over there prior to the event, skiing very well, soft spring conditions, tube is perfect soft bumps, NS and CT variations very good. Went to the event, got up high so we could get down and out before the crowds, signage up all over there now 'Cannon this way' pointing to Barons, 'Out of Bounds' next to TB, etc.. Ducked the rope on hard twice and it was very nice, really perfect, MR was good too as was LB.
Anyway, it is official now -

Yep I was there actually but didn't ski it till after the rope cutting... Nice bumps, but boy was it crowded, hopefully just due to the recent advertising and it will be less crowded next year? Who knows...

i have to say that i'm pretty excited to have it officially part of the resort, it'll just open things up a bit. with a little bit of trail pruning and maintenance, conditions and overall ski quality will be great. i hope they get that lift goin sooner than later.

A nasty T-bar would better maintain that `wild' atmosphere than a rubber matted gondola....

a t-bar is the ticket. saddleback is ruined with that new summit quad. the t-bar kept the less-fit/skilled off of the summit ridge. t-bars are the way.

In all the times I have hiked over the saddle yesterday was the first time I really stopped and looked around at what is up there. I had never noticed that the peak of Mittersill (I believe Mt. Jackson is the name) has a surprising amount of alpine vegetation considering its low elevation. However since one of the biggest aspects of the land swap was to protect the habitat of Bicknells Thrush, it was pretty silly to have the ceremony so high up on the saddle where there where a couple hundred people trampling around through this vegetation. I'm sure the people from WMNF and NH audobon who helped with the swap would not have been happy if they were there.
As for the lift, a t-bar would be cool but I think the double that they are planning on is going to be slow enough to keep people away.

sad to see the saddleback t-bar go away too, 2 years ago one half of the wooden T snapped off about 50 feet up with my friend on it, pretty hilarious -

T-Bar or a single chair would be cool... But like I was talking to a friend last night at college, it will never be the same as it has been in recent years now that it is "open"

Rubber padded gondolas are fun!
As for T-bar...... Make it a rope tow! :p
