Well, we are back....only to be leaving for Vermont next wednesday. The wife (aka the girl) has a couple of interviews in Stowe and Killington on the 11th and then we plan on hitting Stowe on the 12th and again on the 13th. Might head up to Jay if the snow is better.
Would love to meet up with any and all T4T peoples on the slopes.
The wedding was a blast...thanks to all for your wishes. Photos will follow soon.

Congrats! Best luck!
Congrats Banick! Welcome to the club. Now have a mess of kids, this country is dangerously underpopulated.
Stowe Deals: When I was making my Ski Deals Page (http://www.weirdtable.org/~m/tuckerman/SkiDeals.htm) I wasn't able to find a single deal.
I was able to verify that Miguels Stowe Away still has boarding, and it's cheap, and they were never the Trap Family Lodge. (Trap Lodge is awsome - but wicked expensive)
Good Beers to be had at "The Shed" in stowe.

My brother in-law has a place in Warren, VT, near Waitsfield. He reported really good dealings with a Real Estate agent there. I'm pretty sure that there are other such connections available among the stalwarts here.
Best of luck!

Ok this is the deal.....
We arrive in stowe early evening on 10 December 2003.
Thursday is interviews in stowe and Killington, returning back to the Hotel in stowe that night.
Friday....first chairish (depending on conditions) at stowe. Neither of us have snowboarded at stowe so Friday at Stowe is a definate.
Saturday is condition dependant. If we like Stowe (or find a deal on lifts) or the snow is schweet then we ride stowe. If it is marginal or Jay gets a good dump then we will hit Jay. Or god forbid if the weather turns nasty we may head up to montreal on saturday for some berverages.
We head back to Toronto on sunday.
That is the itinerary thus far. The hotel is booked and we are raring to go.
Hope to see some of you there.
Oh....no kids for a bit...we want to be ski bums for a couple of years yet and maybe pay off some debts. Then a dog (for practice) then kids (to carry our gear :D )

Nice plan....may you find pow so often the ice doesn't matter on the :autoroad: ahead ;)

Are you still on your honeymoon Bannick? Nice!Nope....we aren't going on one yet. We are doing three weeks in whistler and seattle with trips to hood and baker in between if all goes well.
The trip to Stowe is for interview and a pre honeymoon thing. We need to find the wife a job till the paperwork goes through. So if we apply through a Canadian Consolate in the US it takes 3 to 6 months to process and she can come and go (to and from canada) as she pleases.
If we apply from within Canada it could take up to 3 years and she can not leave the conuntry untill the paperwork is finalized. They would give her a work visa tho. Not being able to leave for three years is a bit daunting given that Seattle and her family is only a 5 hour plane ride away.
So the unfortunate thing is we only get to see each other on weekends till it goes through. But I would rather she keep busy working then waiting around twiddling her thumbs in Toronto. I am gonna see if work will let me do a 3 day 40 hour week so I can get four days off to go to vermont. Oh and I am gonna win the lottery too....

Bannick,
If you want to hit Smuggs up, I will probably be there (weather dependent). I rarely hit Stowe, it's too cost prohibitive, and as a local, I rarely get Stowe deals. Smuggs is much more local friendly. Although...Jay might be nice. I could be convinced to make the trip there...

M@ We've stayed at several places in Stowe, visited others. We like the quality of the Stoweflake as well as its location. Slightly pricey but doable. Top Notch is VERY expensive but awesome (great bar!). Best deal we have had was the Butternut Inn which is very personable, nice decent rooms and great common room areas for meeting other guests. Outside hot tub as well.
We didn't really find the Trap Family Lodge that appealing... but thats us. I kept thinking Julie Andrews would appear at any moment.

We are staying at the riverside in Stowe...Canadian Money at Par!!!!!
See the key to being a ski bum and paying bills is this....get a night job cleaning as a lead hand or shift supervisor. You get one of the highest paying gigs on the hill...get to ride pretty much everyday and know the conditions way before everyone else.
I came back from Whistler with money in my pocket. I made 11 bucks an hour my rent was 165/month (in staff housing, highest ski in/ski out on the mountain). Had free meals most nights I worked and put in 125 days. It was saweet. And to top it all off if you stayed to the end of the season they gave me a bonus of 94 cents for each hour worked. Soopa bonus for the trip back to Toronto.
But alas my view of skibumming has changed now that I am married, old and grumpy. Now I look at it as being in a secure well paying job that allows me to bugger off when the snow is good and push my work day around.
The local mountains (snicker) open up on friday...even takin my boss with me :D

ok....the wife got a job...actually two offers but it looks like Stowe will be the place. Now we had hoped to get up stowe today but we figured monsoon rain over the former poweder with wind would make for an icy day, givien that we had to literally chip the honda out of the ice. Spent the day in Burlington at Burton and ice cream sampling.
Trying agian tomorrow for stowe but if jay looks better will go there instead. If you are up look for us....me orange and grey jacket, green board chrome helmet. wife...orange sleeves blue pants black helmet.
