Tenney Mountain Summer skiing (http://www.tenneymtn.com/summer/)

Looks like Tenny is opening July 4th...
I may make a road trip to check it out... Still seems a little unbelievable to me...

DMC:

Wow! :lips: Is this place for real?

Any idea if they allow skiing? Or if they are only open to competitors this weekend?

Even if I can't ski, it might be worth the trip to scout out their snowmaking system. You gotta love the forecast...."85 degrees and snowing"

DMC, are you entering the July 4th competition? :snowboarding: Anyone else going to check it out or compete?

No I'll doing the American tradition of drinking and shooting off fireworks...

Not a very good at competition...

Mumster you should go! Camp sounds perfect for such a competitor as thou. The Tenney website explains how they make the snow. Too far for us to bother with.

Mumster et al... if you do feel deprived of your fix for snow, I suggest you consider purchasing the SG4-LED snow maker from Snow at Home (http://www.snowathome.com) . :p

Now I wonder... maybe we could start a fund on T4T to collect money to buy a few SG4's to scatter about the ravine to keep Tucks open year round. Water source = Hermit Lake, Power = Solar panels. Thoughts?

My company is one of the sponsors for the July 4 contest. I checked with a coworker, & he's not sure if they will stay open to the public afterwards, or if they'll let the snow melt. The website & snow phone does not have specific dates, so they might not be ready to keep the snowmaking going on the trail. When I get more info I will let you know. I live close enough to make it worthwhile to check it out!

This is snowboard acrobat stuff....I'd get flattened... :( I'm willing to cheer on any T4Ters who compete.

Let's see if ski&ride can give us a prognosis on the outlook for skiing on the 5th. If we can ski, nothing will stop me from going. :skifemcool:

If there is no skiing, I'm still tempted to go to check it out. I can always just  , :sun: , and maybe have a :beermug: . But, I have a feeling it will be a tough weekend to mobilize a  from home - my winter ski friends down here think I'm totally derranged. ;)

Well, earlier I emailed the good folks at Tenney Mtn. to verify if they are only open on 7/4 or staying open....no reply yet. I can't go on the 4th, but with the "grand opening" & Big Air contest I imagine it will be overcrowded anyways. I think the best bet is to keep checking their website for updates. I have yet to find a human voice on their phone line....I'm just getting antzy at the thought of July :snowflakes: an hour and a half away from home. It may just be 1 trail, but it's snow!

This would be the PERFECT solution to our depressing east coast snow meltdown. Does anyone know if they are EVER planning anything other than a terrain park?

This would be the PERFECT solution to our depressing east coast snow meltdown. Does anyone know if they are EVER planning anything other than a terrain park? I hear you, Skimum. My guess/hope (only a theory) is that if their profits are huge on this, when the temps drop back down to slower melting, they may expand it. Wishful thinking for an early fall season! Hmmm, I wonder what the overhead costs are to own a snowmagic system. I have a 10' vertical drop behind my condo! :D If my company gets any word this summer about expansion, etc. at Tenny, I'll pass it along on this board for sure.

Happy 4th to all!

At the bottom of the report they say they will be open on Sat, Sun, and Mon.

You coming up Mumster :D ?

Awesome! They must have recently updated the date/times. I'm going to check it out! Maybe bring the snowboard on Saturday & try out some jumps. I'll be easy to spot, I'll be falling on my :nakedguy: most of the time (fully clothed, however). Learning to snowboard is a definate change from skiing, but fun as well!

I don't feel comfortable in most terrain parks because I don't do jumps/acrobatics.
If it's appropriate just to :skifemcool: I'd drive up Friday to catch the end of the show, then :skifemcool: Saturday.

Any plans on going SkiLas? Or anyone else?

Anyone skied in snow from these systems before? I wonder what the snow quality is like. Does anyone know if they salt it, or do other things to keep it firm? Otherwise it would just turn to slop.

:mumster: , I may be trying to go to Tucks... for a few turns on the patch that is left, if for no other reason then to say I did, but, I might well stop by at Tenney as well. This is all probably pipe dreaming, but it is in consideration... I don't really do much in the way of jumps and things, but I thought 10-E might be a great opportunity to demo blades or something since we won't really be able to ski ;) :p

Mumster
07-03-2003, 08:17 AM
Hmmm. Trying blades. Great idea. I didn't think of it.

I probably won't go, because it's too far to drive w/o company (hubbys working/skidude is at camp, etc.). Plus I'd need to find someone to care for the :dog: . Still, it's so novel, I'd like to go just to see the system. I threw my slop skis in the car this AM, just in case ... The potential to :mtwashington: on the same trip makes it even more appealing. How far is Tenney from :mtwashington: ?

Hi, all. I know I'm joining in this thread late but heres my 2 cents:

1) Mum: Tenney is closer to you than :mtwashington: :)
2) I don't know that there will be any ski shops open to rent blades or other gear. :(
3) Re: the make-your-own snow supplies: wouldn't it be cool to do that at Tucks and be able to sk there all summer long? The temps stay cool enough to continue making snow every night! :D
4) Heading out to Chicago myself, so will have to miss the Tenney event, but to anyone who goes I'd love to hear the report!

I would shred the fake stuff this weekend if Dr. Phos and I didn't have 15 gallons of beer to drink and $400 of fireworks to light off!!! I wish I wasn't missing it!
