After a long day on Rainier last week it's obvious that I need to get some work done on my boots. Once those puppies came off it felt like the pain train came to town, and all I could do was gulp some brews and Tylenol. Might be time for some custom beds or something.

Anyone know of a good boot fitter in the Boston area?

Greetings fellow Brighton-ian. Though I've never gone there for boot work, I've heard good things about Joe Jones Wilderness House on Comm Ave. I was in there beginning of the season to fit some boots and their bootguy asked all the right questions and did the right things.

I head up to Concord, NH for my bootwork. If you can spare the trip, it's worth seeing Jeff Bokum at S&W Sports.

Phil at Ski Stop in Westwood is a very good bootfitter. I find the Joe Jones guys to be less than knowledgable when it comes to actually fitting the boots. They know AT/Tele gear, but I haven't been impressed with their bootfitting. Phil doesn't sell AT/Tele gear, but knows his stuff when it comes to fitting boots, making footbeds, etc.

Yeah, I too had a bad experience with Joe Jones when they tried fitting my tele boots.

So, I'm not sure when but, I think I was living in Utah when Joe Jones decided to ruin ski shops across New England! It's sad, really! Now, most of you in Major Metro Areas (Boston, Hartford, and the like) have all but two choices, Ski Market and Joe Jones! It's a disgrace!

With that said, I was much relieved to find that the Best Boot Fitter on the East Coast can still be found at Joe Jones Mountain Outfitters (Formerly Andes Mountain Outfitters) in Bartlett, NH....just east of Attitash between Bartlett and Glen, NH.

If you are looking for a proper boot fitting, I can only recommend Jim Coury of Mountain Outfitters! When it was time for me to get into a pair of Tele-Boots about 5+ years ago, I couldn't appreciate what Jim did for me...really! Jim spent a great deal of time and effort to find the perfect shell/liner combination. Twice baked and many laughs later, I was out the door and on my way. After all these years later, the boots have taken a beating but, I just can't get away from them because they are so damn comfortable!

This past winter, I took the Girlfriend to Jim to troubleshoot a boot problem she'd been having! He did all that he could for her, while being honest and upfront! Understand, the boots weren't even purchased from Joe Jones. Still, Jim took the time to do what he could to make the boots fit!

Go see Jim (Tip him well) and you'll be happy skier!
