and maybe worth the hike up to check out. Someone could claim first turns and I'd buy you a beer just to hear you talk of your adventure.

Wow, that looks soooo nice. I wish I hadn't committed to going down to CT this weekend, or I might have been tempted to head north...

DMC -
Better yet wait one week and go up next to see if they get more snow. Then come join us at KC's for some ribs and beer and regale us with stories. I'll pitch in given that you just lost your job. Been there - it sucks.
Friends help friends in a time of need.
I'm a contractor - it happens...
Now whats this about next week?

KFARRAR: I found the picture on Mt Washington Page (http://www.mountwashington.org/photojournal/) . Scroll down to view. I just saw it there today, so it's pretty recent.
DMC: Sorry to hear the news. I hope you pick up a new contract soon. Sending good vibes your way...

Next week a bunch of us are getting together in Manchester, NH. That's roughly 2 hours from Mount Washington.
I think the list of attendees is something like this:
Skistooge, KMRNSkier, M@, SkiLasLenas, Ski&Ride and friend, and who knows who else might show up.
Everyone is welcome of course. Be the one wearing the most ski to the event and I'll personally buy you a beer.
Right click on the picture, choose "properties", They put it up today, but it's name is based on Oct 3rd. :sun: & :happydog: = :skicool:

I just lost my job today.... Sorry to hear that, DMC. :( I hope something better comes along. Meanwhile, maybe it's better to be unemployeed at the beginning of ski season than the end of ski season.

How far is riding from Boston? Riding is as close as 1/2 hour on Blue Hills (Vert drop: 309 feet)
http://www.skiresorts.com/html/resorts/northamerica/usa/MA/MA_BlueHills/
GOOD riding is 2-3 hours depending on how big a place you want and how fast you drive.
Good luck with the Boston lead!

-BG Downtown to Blue Hills in 15 minutes, under an hour to Wah -- wah-ah -- wahchusset. Under 2:00 to Cannon or Ragged is where its at for Boston Daytrips

Can't forget Nashoba Valley - less that hour
Mt. Sunapee(awesome sking and riding) - under two hours
Crotched Mt is reopening - less that an 1.5 hours
Gunstock Mt (Good skiing and riding) less that an 1.5 hours
Larz Anderson Park Boston/Brookline.
Not sure about the vert but sledders and tobagganists flock there on a snowy weekend day. No lift, but it's a nice location for those days where the $ is short or the time is short.

Shhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't say Gunstock so loudly!!! I live 7 mins from their lot and LIKE it uncrowded!!!! OK, all I ask is if you bring anyone up with you that they be able to ski and not stand in the way like a traffic pylon. We get a lot of those up here at Gunstock, it seems. (Maybe that's why I don't ski weekends. And when I do, I usually go up to Cannon. If I'm gonna fight crowds I'm gonna at least be able to crank out turns on some steep terrain. Have fun, be safe. :skistooge:

Loon is an hour from me, so 2 from Boston. Great place, on weekdays. Weekends, you end up standing in line forever and a day. Not to mention, when you're on the trail, you're basically dodging people b/c there are so many of them.

On the short commute end of the spectrum, Tenney is about 1:30. Stay away from most stuff that's under three hours from Boston, though, because everyone else from Boston will flock there on the weekends. Stuff under the three-hour mark is also with a reasonable distance from NYC, so the crows can be especially painful (read: most skiing in Southern VT).
We used to day-trip most stuff in N. Central VT (MRG, Sugarbush, and Stowe) -- all about 3-3:15 from Boston -- until we got a little more financially stable and Mrs. O required the Saturday night stay. Call on Fridays and you can always find someone who'll sell you a room at their B&B for just Saturday night without staying Friday. Also avoid the Friday-night drive on 93 -- it's horrible. Saturday morning early is never a problem.
Jay, Sugarloaf, and Smuggs are all about 4 hours from Boston. We've day-tripped all three, but it's painful stuff. Plenty of super-cheap places to stay around Jay.
And then, of course, there's the Ravine, which is under 3 hours for most from Boston.
Good luck and hope everything works out!
Don't forget Magic...it's the uncrowded So. VT exception because most folks remember it being closed. Fortunately it reopened and the skiing is whatever you want...trees, steeps, steep trees, drops, pow, groomed...and there's a nice little bar at the base lodge and occasionally venison, grouse, or duck available amongst the usual fare at the cafeteria.

I never thought I'd say this (or eat it), but :moose: meat is very tasty. I had it at a work BBQ & they didn't tell me what it was at first. Poor little :moose: ...MMMMMMMMMMMMM.
I guess I'm officially a NH resident now.
