Due to poor bus planning only one child was at the bus stop this afternoon - so the Wed ski lesson for her turned into a Parent Companion ticket for me and I brought the Tele Gear on a whim.

On the drive to Pat's Peak I picked up a big 3'x2.5' framed version of James Nehues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Niehues)map of Pat's (it's on the wall behind this monitor) that I'd been negotiating for a few days. Everyone here has seen this guys work - check out his web page (http://www.jamesniehues.com/) for a sample.

I had in mind the 1937 Harvard-Dartmouth image (http://www.mountwashington.org/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=261&zenid=1ae35e1808091c2e672a9dc7549fde83) for that spot - but the Pats Peak is the closest lift service to our house, and the kids are going to grow up skiing there a lot. That and I scored a really good deal on a very nicely framed picture.

So with the art in the back with the girl, and the tele gear beside me - we hit Pat's peak. Got the girl to her lesson and a $25 Companion ticket later I was trying to figure out how to get the telemark skis on. The safety clips are NOT fun, and I figured too late that there is a left and right ski. Until I figured I could kneel down to get the binding on right I was trying to stretch down and pulled a muscle in my arm.

I was very happy to learn you can perform alpine turns on this gear - so it's a question of forcing yourself into the tele stance - which I did as much as I could.

Holy burning quads! My advice to all = Don't go for a jog the morning you decide to learn Telemark Skiing.

On certain bindings, I think. I know there be wee arrows on me Voile 3 pin CRBs that tell me which ski goes on the right hoof and which the left. Don't recall knowing which was which on my previous binders. I'm sure some gearhead like RR or rog can edumucate us.

Way to get at it, M@ and fine work on figuring out the whole knee function deal! :p Keep bending em and you'll have quads of steel! Hope the arm strain ain't too painful.

It's all about the shape of the boot and the binding being wider on the outside (lateral aspect) than it is on the inside(medial aspect).

Some telemark skis are also made right and left. Scotty Bob's and BD Crossbows for instance

Thanks for info RR: On these particular bindings, the saftey clip wire is on a different side for each binding, and if you put them on wrong the wire isn't long enough to reach the loop on the boot.

Burn baby burn! I hear ya on the confusion... on my Piste Offs, my telebinders have the safety clips and I put them on the outside edges of the skis when 'clicking in'. Took awhile to figure that out. but now I use BD-01's and there's no lft/rgt issue.

What time did you leave? I was there yesterday from 4-8pm. You prolly wouldnt have recognized me on skis though. Oh wait you dont usually recognize me anyways ;)

Yeah, I ski my teles with the safety clips on the outside for easiest reach to the boots, but I didn't think the skis were right and left sided.

I did get to try scottybobs at a telefest once and they totally rock. unfortunately for me they only had 180s, which is WAY too long for me. It is a testament to the ski that I could still ski them in teleform.
