Today was the first time riding the tram at Cannon this season. Nothing like running full mountain and a half laps all day on the same tram car. You can almost get a work out if you stick to the black diamonds and make turns really fast.

The mountain really sucks tuesday-thursday by comparison with two slow chairs and a nasty windy detach to get to the top. I wonder if they actually did the accounting, or it's just a plot to drive the midweek skiers to Loon.

The Cannon is back the way we like it: groomed hard pack and water ice with nice iced up moguls. If you stomp your turns hard enough, you can even see your tracks in the glaze! These conditions sure keep the crowds in check and definitely deter those powder weenies with their fat rockers. Even the every-dayers disappeared quickly after a minor Rocket corduroy frenzy on their GS skis.

But, with a really stiff pair of racing slalom skis and some alpine boots, its a blast. Of course, a face mask is key for the negative temps with the fresh NW breeze....

PS Apparently the reason they moved from closed M and F to closed Tu-Thur this season was because the weekenders b*ched loudest.

Next best thing to the tram at La Grave, huh? Drops ya in on all that gnarly gnar pow pow, I mean ICE. Looks like this will be a weekend for windslab-on-ice hunting!
