Anyone willing to offer some snow pack info for the Cardigan area? I've got a potential to get out of work for a bit this afternoon and I will be in the Cardigan area to meet a customer. Ofcourse the sticks are in the car and they have been neglected all week, they need some love.

Rain crust from the last system?
Little dust on crust?
any info is appreciated

Thanks

Backcountry weather and trail report has been consistently reporting great skiing on the ski trails. Might be heading up there tomorrow myself.

Thanks Boardman, it was nice to have the quick intro at Cannon last week.

I'm thinking of poking around for a few hours this afternoon if work permits (it/I usually do), I'll let you know what it is like if I get out. If I don't get out this afternoon there is a good chance that we will be up there tomorrow as well, then up to Cannon for Sunday. Perhaps we'll see you up there, if not enjoy!

Skied Alexandria last Saturday. The snow was quite nice and there was plenty of coverage. Everything above tree line was windblown and there was almost as much exposed rock as snow.

What Stormrider said plus we had a mild thaw last Sunday (low 30's) and that may have left a little crusting but otherwise nothing new to report. Trails have been cut up pretty well by now but there's places that still have the 'fresh' goods... IF you know where to look. ;)

Good luck! I'm headin over there tomorrow for some deep country explorations.

Was at Cardigan last Sat and Sun. ZERO crusting, however the trails are skiing packed powder as there were lots of folks up there that weekend. Things are well-skied with some powder left along the sides of the trails (likely more on Dukes, less on Alex, which gets more traffic). Should be a FINE day out though. The snow is DEEP. Went to the top of my poles in places.

Hi all,

I'm new to this back country stuff (more or less) so I hope my question won't sound totaly naive.

Are there trails at Cardiagan that can be used to hike up to the top so I can ski down? Or would I have to have use snow shoes to get up?

I only have alpine equipment and the budget is too slim for any additions such as AT boots/bindnigs/skins or snow shoes for that matter.

The effort w/o snow shoes could be horrendous. Better to take the slowshoes and not need them than to need them and not have them.

It's been a while since tha last snow, so you might get there and see nicely packed trails...i suspect you will, infact. Make the call right before you lock the car.

BTW, hike up in you hiking boots (w/gaiters)...yeah, pretty obvious, but better to mention it than not.

Happy trails!

hey, just a word out to ya. stay off of the gulf of slides ski trail if you don't have the proper equipment. snowshoes if you must, skinning is preferred. all it takes is one gaping postholer to @#$% up the trail. cardigan? i really don't go over there, only skied there once in fact, but the same rules apply. just eat one less meal a day and buy yerself some used, roll the dice crap, on e-bay or the like. shoulda seen the pair of fritchis that i mounted for a guy today that bought em used. they were junk. ended up selling him a new pair of freeride+ binders for the same price he paid for the @#$% up ones when you figure in the shipping and i mounted the new ones for free and i'll cover any warranties-no questions asked. bring me a used pair from the internet and if i don't abuse ya 1st, yer on yer own.:D
support your local shops or pay later.

I hear you. Last thing I want to do is posthole a trail. That's like pissing in my own beer.
