Saturday night 7:30pm, getting off work and venturing out into a wonderland of snow. Car gets dug out, car gets stuck, car gets dug out, car gets stuck again, car gets dug out, car finally just manages to barrel through out of the parking lot.

8:30, sitting at home wondering what can be done, I just don't feel up to the trek by myself in my rear-wheel drive station wagon in really bad conditions. 8:35, friend calls:" X's friend has four free tickets to Sunday River. She is spending the night at my house and we are driving the my car up tomorrow. We both hate driving in this stuff.. ;) wanna come?

9:05 dig my car out again, with gear in trunk, heading to friends house.

9:35 dig my car into a legal parking space, help 84 year old ex Sun Valley skier lady dig her car out

10:50, relax with glass of Swedish Glogg (mulled red wine) and a plate of pasta, 12:30 other friend finally arrives 1:10 go to bed.

4:30 not one of the three alarms set goes off.

4:55 someone miraculously gets up

4:57 dresses and out the door to dig out friends front wheel drive out

5:32 on the road to pick up friend with free tickets

5:56 on the road with friend and 4 free passes to Sunday River

5:57 hit horrible conditions on highway in downtown Boston, all remaining hopes of first chair gone, but we are making progress

8:30 ish, call to friend at the mountain. Report: "2 feet and still coming, chairs probably won't open until at least 10:00, maybe 10:30

10:00 ish ( I stopped paying attention to the clock) drop off gear and go to park car

10:15 ish get into boots

10:25 getting on our first chair of the day... look out to see that many many chairs have gone before us... no worries.

10:35 first run through BIG SOFT POW!!!

10:36:22 first face shot!!!!!!!!! of many many face shots to be had.

POW POW POW... all day long!

3:50 leave lodge, wondering if we should all call in... Rt 26 had been closed down much of the day after we arrived. The roads were treacherous.

3:52 Twisted sense of responsibility prevails -> we depart the lodge to drive home.

6:06, I give up the wheel to the one that had napped the previous two hours.

8:00-9:00 drop off friend number one, drop off friend number, thank him for free lift ticket.

9:20 dig car back into parking space

9:34 crack beer and report to T4T

ready for bed

:badwords: yeah! Hey Ski Las, I thought I'd miss first chair too, but they started rolling a little before 9 (perhaps a nice save thanks to my invocations of Ullr and the T4T First Gates Spirit?) They kept opening and closing lifts throughout the earlier part of the day.

Ski Las - I wish I could have been there. Sounds like a great day. Are you going to make it up to Tucks on the 12?

Hope to see you soon for another night at KC's.

Kevin

What type of :hummer: did you use to get threw the :snowflakes: ? VW Jetta, loaded and heavy. Drove really well despite having wide street tires on. Way better than my Volvo 940 with balding front tires and serious dry weather tires on the rear.

Plus I heard skidad talking about how he can't even find snow tires around here. Doesn't really suprise me tho. People here think we are going to die with 3 inches of snow.

Skilas - you made it driving a Jetta? I owned one for 10 months during that awesome winter a few years ago. I never had a problem with front wheel drive until that car, it just plain stunk in snow. And it wasn't my driving!!!

Skilas - you made it driving a Jetta? ..... And it wasn't my driving!!! I know it wasn't your driving, I like your driving. The problem with a Jetta, old or new, is that they are WAY TOO LIGHT!!! But with four people and all our gear, it handled wonderfully! I owned a bunch of Rabbits, years 76 - 80, when I was younger and when winter came I mounted hunks of cinder blocks over the wheels, handled like a charm!!! I could go places and get through sh&% better than most, but there weren't many 4WD back then either.
