All my close friends and I use to ski and snowboard together all the time. We were all big time diehards. Now if i even ask them to go there like no no no. My one friend who still does snowboard with me now works third shift so he cant go. It kinda sucks that no one wants to do it anymore and now everytime i go i always go by myself. Its kinda depressing now going alone all the time but its not going to stop me from doing what i love. Oh well just had to let that outta me sorry

All my rowdy friends....etcetera

Title: "Some Phone Numbers"

For some kicks I went drinking, with some old hounds I ran with
While you were away for the day
Now the guys hadn't changed much, the scene seemed the same
In the way that the night games are played

Chorus:
Without you I'd be one of the ones who just stumble
And grab any soft place to fall
Where each day begins with a walk out some doorway
With some phone numbers you'll never call

As the evening drank on, we got more into basics
About loves lost and friends we have known
Well, Big John, he's bankrupt, and Old Lucky's in jail
And Fast Eddie's still living alone

Chorus

Bridge:
Starting all over would be more than I could handle
I don't think my lines would ring true
Looking for love in the arms of a stranger
Is more than I'm willing to do

Chorus

That night I drove home, past the houses for sale
Their plans had all come to an end
There's no blueprint for livin', no one has your answers
But we're given some clues now and then

Chorus

PS:

Sometimes it seems like I met Mrs RR at a Jerry Jeff concert just yesterday. At such times I wonder just where did that 26 year old son of ours....Oh!
I remember now!

A boy growed up with Bob Wills on the box jus'natchurly has to love them Gonzo Compadres :D

Back on topic:

Solo is a way to go...only way if'n you goin after Grizz....

Seriously. What with partners occasionally having to bail because their old frostbite acts up or not being smart enough to know that you don't wear all your clothes for the approaches on -22F mornings, I've been solo in the wild more times than I can remember.

Fagettaboutit! Bring along a collected Edgar Alle Poe or your favorite Steven King and scare the #!%&! out of yourself on a few overnighters and the worries will go away :D

Hey Greek! Get yerself some NEW friends, like maybe from this here board of people who all like to do the same kind of thing you do! Then post more great TRs with photos and show your old friends what they're missing [insert smiley thumbing its nose in a "nyahh nyahh" kind of way]!

I have done a few solo outings and will probably do more in my future. Mostly for the reasons stated above. I really appreciate the solo trips but to tend to like the company. I am now comfortable going when I can, whether or not I have company. Everybody has differently priorities and sometimes it's mine that conflict. I am missing out on a trip to Katadin as I type this. Damn priorities. But that didn't stop my buddy from going and I wouldn't have wanted it to.

This website and others have been great fro meeting up with folks I would have never had the opportunity to meet.

Yeah all my buds had bailed on me , that's what happens as people get out of their high school and college lifestyle and enter "real life".Spent years hiking and skiing solo 'till I became aware of forums like this for hiking and skiing.Met tons of like minded people.I'm currently trying to bang out a single season W48.Soon as I'm done with that I'll be focusing on skiing and meeting some other skiers.

"Nobody left to run with anymore" - Allman Brothers. Love that song. Been there. But things are good now, and as has been said before, it's always easy to make a new friend through this website. Lots of real good people who share the passion. I LOVE going solo in the mountains - gives me a real feeling of solitude and independence. But the most memorable times I've had have always been with friends, old and new; someone with whom you can reminisce about this trip or that trip for years to come, usually while on another trip, and especially when you're sitting by that campfire or camp stove, and especially when there's good brew or hooch thrown in.

A couple trips to eastern Canukistan will live in my memory and those were with 8 folks one year and even more folks the next. But not one of them were the kids I grew up with, I met every one of them on the interwebs and they are without exception wonderful people!

Rock on! The rythmn that is yours is also music to many fine people! There's no rush!

Well back in the 80s my 2 best ski buds and I spent most of our time and income driving between the Loaf and various Dead shows in varying states of consciousness. Good times and every time I hear "Loan Me A Dime" I transcend back to the Carrabasset river in 1985. But one has a new knee and doesn't ski anymore and one moved to Oregon and doesn't ski anymore, so yeah that happens. Trust me, it's worse when they start dying on you! But even without Jerry, brownies and Loan Me A Dime, and even without my buds, the snow still smells good falling from the sky, my feet still smile as the powder parts beneath them and social stigma aside that PBR still tastes good when I share it with my dog. Savor those days that went by, but focus more on the great day you're going to have tomorrow.

Ps, no Loan Me A Dime isn't a Jer tune, but it was our go-to drive to the loaf song...
