So this is my third year living in NE and my boss recently showed me the ravine and im excited to get out there and was wondering if anyone has any advice for me.(equipment, routes ect.) I consider myself to be near expert rider.

Best routes for first timers are (in order easiest to hardest, IMO)
Gulf of Slides, main slide
Hillman's Highway
Right Gully
Left Gully
Know how to jump turn with confidence. Whether you're a skier or snowboarder, it's a necessary technique on most of the above, regardless of conditions.
Chute, Sluice, and the Lip have more somewhat more cliff hazard than the above routes and are more extreme.
Just dress smart (light layers that you can fine tune to conditions, not one big layer), pack enough food & water, bring some safety gear that you know how to use (beacon/shovel/probe) and have fun. Best time to ski is in solid spring corn snow conditions - earlier in the year brings heightened avalanche danger, heed the report.

tx. Ive been reading the other forums and got a pretty good idea now. My friend told me that Jan-mar are dangerous times to camp/ride. He advised me to go in april. what do you think??

definetely. If you go in april, many more people will be up there, it's a ton of fun. Even if you're not skiing, you can sit at lunch rocks and watch. plus, the snow is deep and stabilzed. jan-feb, like yuckster said, are heightened avi danger months. bring back pics!

Timing is everything. Statistically, Jan-March have more time in less stable conditions than April. The only conditions that matter are the ones you're facing. Moderate danger is just as dangerous in April or May as it is in January.
Go prepared: Skill, knowledge, equipment travel companion and attitude-wise. It's a very special place: experience it safely!

It's fun tour to go up to the Ravine mid-winter to get the lay of the place and see how it's filling in, bring the Caretaker a good canned beer, then ski down the Sherburne. Always observe the avalanche advisory and talk to the USFS avi rangers before you go up to the bowl and heed their advice. Take pix and post them here.
