How many pairs of ski pant do you own? A guy at work started skiing last year, and we helped him pick out hsit from ebay, and he got a pair of ski pants and we said, "great, hard to screw them up." And then the next day he says he got another pair. And I say, "Okay, but I only have one pair, and it's been fine for like a decade now..." and he comes in the next week... and guess what? He bought another pair of ski pants. So we've been razzing him all season, we razed him all summer, and I'm gonna ask him "Are those your rock pants? Or your after-noon pants? Or the vintage pants for the Adarondak room?" as soon as we hit the slopes this year too.

Anyway: Dave, can I set up poles... I mean polls? I wanna be a moderator. I say we set a post limit for moderator, and it is... uh, 500, yeah. That sounds fine. So the SkiPoll is "How many ski pants do you own" and the answers are like "0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7" and if people ask "Where are all the non-prime numbers? We can ask them if they are SURE there ins't one pair hidden somewhere that they just don't fit into anymore.

I should split this into several posts so I can catch DMC, but I will always be #007, secret Tucker-Man.

0. That's zero. I don't own any. Years ago I had some White Stag pants...they behaved exactly as does Scholer Sport does these days: stretchy, hydrophobic and tough as nails!

I have 2 pairs of Nort Face - Freeride pants. I have been using the one pair for 2 years and saw them on sale this summer for $50 and couldn't pass up the deal.

One pair. I love them, reinforced ankles, knees and bum. I've replaced every zipper at least once, most of the velro as well.

Three and 1/2.
An everyday pair , and a light-weight pair (spring skiing). I wear my original ski pants once a year just to prove they fit after 20+ years -> the vanity pair. The warm-up shorts :shorts: are terrific for cold, wet days, or for wearing over a downhill suit.

M@ - I thought you already had moderator status. I second the motion that you should be authorized to set up polls - especially this time of year when the Davester is often :teardrop: .

Popcorn addiction or not...we can trust M@

There's no way I could fit those first ski pants...I was 6' tall at the time, but a lot thinner.

These days I'm still 2 yards tall, but in the last 35 years I have grown to a yard of girth from my youthfull 29".

Just 1 pair for me...
in spring, I just put shorts instead of ±jogging pants under them... so I just need one pair.

M@, don't give me ideas of fake pictures.... James Bond with the head of M@... would be funny :D

I have 2 pairs. One was a gift, the other from a sale at EMS. (I also have a lightweight shell, but I don't think that counts?)

1 pair. Bought them new in '89. Sewn, patched and still as comfy as the day I bought them. Kinda like Frank's theory: I use them in the cold and switch to shorts or shorts and thermals when it warms up above about 25 or so. Have fun, be safe. Al :skistooge:

Hey M@: Thought I had already had you setup for :skipoles: ... er polls, but turns out it only worked in your 'M@'s Trip Forum. So congrats... you are now a new moderator for all forums. Now that the board has FINALLY developed into a large community instead of the odd poster, we certainly need a new qualified moderator (no one more deserving that M@!), probably something I should have done a while back.

As part of the job, please slap anyone using profound language or anyone abusing the use of the :lips: and :bum: graelmins. Don't take any :outhouse: from anyone! :p

Now with the increase in activity, we probably should review the forums, possibly break it up into a few additional areas. Any ideas?

I'm thinking something like (too tired to think here)...

General Tuckerman Ravine Chatter
Recent Photos & Reports
The Toni Matt Club
Off Topic
Tips
Tales of Tuckerman
Site Comments & Suggestions
Old Board Messages
M@'s Trip Forum

The idea being, that anything specifically related to Tuckerman Ravine is in the first forum and recent photos/reports second for quick browsing by members/new members for pertainent info. Off topic would include most of the postings we see, especially in the summer.
What do you thing M@?

Other ideas from any member, more than welcome.

Once we have a new forum structure setup, I'll move some of the topics to the appropriate forums.

Cheers :beermug:

Dave, about splitting the boards, I'm not sure if this would be a great idea. I think it's more useful to have all the threads on the same page rather than have to do "200" clicks to reach all the pages and threads you want to see...

At least, I'm glad that you didn't add a Frankontour's english corrections board :p

Ahh, a Toni Matt Club forum of it's own?

I assume it will be restricted?

Hey I'm as guilty as you guys... At least it is the summertime, and not many people are looking for the relevant inforamtion. (no avi danger now)... So I guess we can have a little fun while there's no snow, right?

On the pants....

I've got one pair. Bought 'em new at K-Mart (not Killington, I really do mean K-Mart) for $20 in 1990. They've been in need of retirement for years, but I just can't pull the trigger. I've invested a lot of duct tape in them....

I also have a pair of packable rain pants that I ski in when things get nasty (the K-Mart pants are just nylon, with no coating of any type, so they're not water proof).

I think my next pair of ski pants is just going to be a regular pair of wool pants. Totally retro. Can you tell I'm getting prepared to spend more days on tele the season?

Dave: Topic suggestions look dead-on. I like the "Restricted Toni Matt" club too. Will it even be visible to non-members? If not visible you prevent people from getting turned off.

Franken: I don't think "too many" clicks is a good reason to knock an idea. The result of such thinking is a single page with about 1000 links on it. Check the crap they make me program for the web sometime... I think a couple clicks if it makes things clear is a good thing.

May be your right.... but I know few websites that lost regular writers, bored of too much clicks, and that didn't get many new writers for the same reason. Anyway, we'll see, it could be completely different on T4T.

I'm an undemanding girl: One pair of pants and one General Discussion message board is good enough for me.

Let's see, first of all, one pair of ski pants. Gore-tex pair that aren't all that good at keeping out the water anymore. Oh well, they're a bit beat up, but they get the job done.

Next (more importantly?) about the forum, I like just checking the General Discussion forum. I agree with others that too many clicks can be a bad thing. The other forum I follow (Telemark Talk over at www.telemarktips.com) (http://www.telemarktips.com)) has just one main forum (ok, so there's like the AVY safety one, and a few others, but one gets probably 95% of the traffic) I like that set-up. I'd say that having a General Discussion forum here is good, and that there should also be a dedicated Trail Report forum. Anything more than that is too much IMO; much easier to just check one or two boards than check 5 or 6.

edit to add: I think the Toni Matt forum is a good idea as well; gives new forum members something to aspire to!
