Went skiing at Sugarbush monday. Skied with a guy named Larry O'Toole--sick skier. Turned out he is heading up for the Son of Inferno and He won the individual "Tucker-Man" event last year (doing the running, kyaking, biking hiking and skiing by themselves). Good luck to all of this years competitors...you all are CRAZY.

Go Larry, and remember...you're only one bad edge away from "Fries are up!!".

I usually do Tucks with a group of friends in late April/early May every year on a Saturday. Does the Son of Inferno weekend add enough extra chaos to make us want to avoid that weekend. We love chaos and having fun, but is there a limit to the number of people that can be up at the bowl at once. Any insight?

Thanks

I've never been up that early in the year. As I understand it though, there can be several thousand people up there skiing/spectating on race day. That sounds like one crowded Tuckerman Ravine Trail to me. I've seen pictures of the gridlock before... I'll bet that day is one hell of a party though.

Going up the trail was REAL busy last year, the day of the Inferno... especially up over the little headwall was like being in a lift line at Tremblant. Bowl was very busy... but I've seen it just as busy on other warm sunny spring day also... Get an idea by viewing photos from last years Inferno, see http://timefortuckerman.com/photos2001-04-21.html?50 .

The participants of the race had a private party at Attitash Mtn Village.

I do Tucks every year, and last year was during Son of Inferno. I thought it was going to be a zoo, but it wasn't any more chaotic that usual. Go early, and don't worry about it.
