Hey so I am a Vermont skier through and through...but I am headed up towards Loon this upcoming weekend. I have a ski pass to Mt. Snow so I can ski Attitash for free...is it any good? I presume its much the same as Mt. Snow, flat, not challenging, very much organized. Due to my financial situation I would like to ski Attitash but I would consider other options. The place we are staying is very close to Loon and its free so that is definitely our base of operations. What areas would one suggest that are within 35 - 45 minutes of Loon to ski? I should emphasize as much as I love to get after some good ol' BC and steeps, I am equally at home in the park, hence why I have a Mt. Snow pass (also bc I live in NYC its close). Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

vermont skier eh? well yer probably not going to find as much natural snow falling in comparison to vermont in nh. when we do get snow, you may find you'll have more of it to yerself than many vermont areas cuz, well vermont is better known for it's pow. loon is not the place to go for interesting terrain or snowfall, they get maybe 100 inches per season, but if ya like park skiing the place kicks ass. now attitash, not bear peak has some great terrain and steeper pitches than most nh ski areas, idiots option, tims trauma, and ptarmigan are steeper than most lift served runs in the east, although not the longest. classic trails at old atti and much better weather than the kitty.
close to lincoln ya got cannon, my favorite lift served in nh, great terrain and my fave on pow days.
good luck

I agree with icelanticskier, Attitash is a whole bunch of fun. The terrain there is loaded with suprises and sweeeet lines hidden right out in the open on the slopes. Ditto on the Bear Peak mention, but the col between, especially down to about mid height has nice trees and some scrub brush skiing. Problem is, it's not VT and they have different attitudes towards the between trails areas..be cool.

The only reason to avoid Attitash is elevation related ice up. So watch your planning on that score. It's elevation is low enough that the daily warming temps result in overnight down-flow cooling and freezing of packed surfaces. If there's fresh, it's about as good as anyplace..about on a par with Magic, another of my faves.

A lot of good ski-club racers come out of Attitash, good edgework seems to come natural to the regulars :D

If you are looking to stay within 45 mins of Loon then Attitash would be a little far. During the summer its about a 45 minute drive but when Bear Notch Rd closes in the winter it makes it much longer, probably adds about a half hour.

Mt. Snow flat? Maybe on the frontside, but there's some great stuff on the north face. I've had many a fine (midweek pow) day on Mt. Snow's north face. I especially like the tree lines over there when the snow is good.

Nothing to see at Cannon, don't bother . . . ;)

the alert slider will enjoy plenty at Mt Snow...this week will be groomed only till the storm gets there.

Also ditto Re: Boardmans' note regarding Cannon...ditto my weather remark above.

Avoid Burke at all costs or there will be no Powder left for me :D
