What about giving us some beta on the Great Gulf?

We're ready with beacons, shovels and probes, but we need the word how the lines are looking any time in the next couple of weeks.

Give us the word and we'll bring back some photos.

Hope you got the goods before tomorrow's ... umm, SNOW! Ten feet of snow, which will make it totally unsafe for the next week!

Hope you got the goods before tomorrow's rain. The "fun window" is closing

I don't know about this "Fun Window" you speak of. With this last storm, I would have been super-weary of huge amounts of wind slab. (Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm no expert by any means.)

Actually, yes, there would be tons of windslab. Definitely be cautious around any sort of windslab.

Umm. It's probably not very safe. That might not stop the people who want to ski it, and the person who asked the original question, from skiing it. Serious evaluation would be needed, and possibly a roped belay. Accessing the terrain from the bottom, for evaluation, is tricky, with a looong approach.

Bump. What's it look like now?

I looked at the Hi Res shot from Wildcat and noticed that Raymond Cataract has very little snow and lots of ice in it.

The visible part of the lower Alpine Garden is nearly bare and the RC "gully" looks wind scoured.

The Ravine is looking fat!

We saw a guy with long skies struggling up Raymond Cataract on Friday. Couldn't really tell how the snow conditions might have been.

GG would be pretty sporty on the kind of wind slab we skied on the Lip. It would be nice to get some soft snow sticking to higher angles .... but not too much!

Above the trees, everything we saw was wind affected and the only real choice was rough or smooth. The layer below the surface was weak with underlying faceting in many places.
