Thanks for posting. I think it sucks, frankly. Cannon is a great place that needs no improving as far as I'm concerned. Plenty of trails for the uninitiated. Mittersill better left to the adventurous. Development will only lead to crowding and further development and further crowding . . . it's a vicious cycle.

What caught my attention, however, more than the Mitti news was the picture of a skier catching first turns at Cannon on Monday! I gotta check that out.

There is no need to worry about this development happening anytime soon. Right now the Cannon management is cautiously optimistic seeing as that their neighbors to the south took the better part of 2 decades to get their South Peak expansion. However assuming the 45 days pass with no problem, their is no immediate plan for building a lift. There are way to many other projects like making Peadbody lodge bigger and expanding the Brookside Learning center to include the rental center. Also, because of Bicknells Thrush, if they ever do build a lift it can only be a double on the exact same footprint as the old double. I know a while back I heard an ugly rumor that there would be a surface lift to get people from the Taft trail up to Mittersill but fortunately Bicknells thrush will not allow that either

If/when the land swap happens the only thing Cannon will do is some trail maintenance and signage over the summer. Come winter they will send patrol over their once in the morning and once more at the end of the day and thats it.

Well, I hope you're right.

I hope I am right too. I work in the ski school there so I see the areas where Cannon can improve and Mittersill is not one one of them.

I was going to bump the old thread on this subject, but you beat me to it.
The deal would allow for the state, upon taking title, to develop only the existing footprint of the Mittersill trails and lift line as they existed in 1989.
3 Cheers for the Bicknells Thrush. I really hope, they never put a mechanical connection between Taft and Mitti.

10-4. It's kind of fun to see how far you can get across the col on a board anyway.
