In AK and the Sierras :p But it's good to see that pink icon back on the NOAA site signifying the return of our preferred season. That and snow showing on the rockpile summit cam has got this guy STOKED!

HAHA! Well, this is encouraging anyway, from the MWO:
The upper level low that has been spinning all kinds of weather our way has one more trick up its sleeve before heading well out of the area. A shortwave trough crossing the Great Lakes region will develop a weak low pressure. As both the upper level and the surface lows travel east, they will drag a cold front across the area early this afternoon. Temperatures today will reach a high in the morning, but then drop slowly from the early afternoon into the overnight, into the upper teens. The frontal passage will also trigger snow. The coastal low and Canadian low, at this point, will be the same storm, and high pressure will be building behind this weather system. The result will be winds sustained near or at hurricane force, and gusting well over hurricane force late today through early tomorrow. Upslope flow and lingering lower level moisture will combine to create a slight chance for snow showers tonight into tomorrow. The high winds and cold temperatures will generate wind chill values in the single digits, both above and below zero degrees. Also, fog combined with freshly fallen snow and high winds will cause limited visibility on the higher summits through most of the next thirty six hours.

I took a hike on Sat 10/4 up into the ravine and it was an incredibly wild day up there. At trail head at 7:30 it was 40 degrees with some wind, sunny and beautiful skies with a huge cloud enveloping Washingtons summit cone and shoulders. The foliage was beautiful on the hike up as the colors gleamed in the sun. About half way up I started to feel some wet precipitation that was being blown west to east from the top of the mountain even though it was completely sunny. Three quarters of the way up the wind started howling and a real chill was in the air at this point I started to get gear in my pack. When I got to Hojos the temp had dipped a good bit and the wind was gusting 35-45 mph. I cant tell you how many ill prepared people I saw- shorts, sneakers, no pack, no warm gear, no food, no water.......when I got to the Little headwall it was turning into February with high winds and blowing snow. You could see clouds and snow scraping Lions Head and Lower Snowfields areas. The clouds thickly rolled off the top of the ravine and swooped down into the bowl where there was about 3 inches of snow in some areas. With the blowing snow and ice pellets goggles were very welcome. At this point it varied from completely socked in to being able to see the Lip waterfall occasionally. On the way back down the trail it was like being in the wizard of oz going through so many climate changes to finally at the base a super nice and sunny 55 degree day with color in the trees and a really cool look back up at the mountain with some lenticular cloud formation pressing the cloud onto the summit only. You could see the very distinct snow line which had grown deeper so much since the early morning- it was truly a Mount Washington sight we all love to see. Skiing will soon be here !

Oh Yes !!!!! Now thats what I am talking about, what a beautiful sight ! While I was hiking up this past Sat. all I could think about was my last wkend in Oct. 2005 trip up to the rockpile after we were blessed with those two monster Hurricane / Tropical storm dumps. I tell you I am ready !!!! Its like I never put the skis away after skiing into July this year.

Seriously, tig, someone "ice-climbed" this weekend?! N-ice! Can't wait to sink some picks and screws.

Not really! If you read the NEIce thread, it said there was enough ice for ONE stick! They apparently climbed it in verglas conditions; whether they did so by dry-tooling or straight rock climbing is unclear.
Ice season will be here soon enough. First, time to enjoy some spectacular fall climbing!

Taken 10/11/08 on my buddy's porch in Jackson (WY, that is) where they got about a foot in town.

He rode 2' at Cave Couloir yesterday - said it was manky, but nice to make some turns. Glory Bowl is filled in and there are rumors of 60"+ in a place called Tobacco Chutes, MT
In any event, it begins. . .

That depends on whether you are a mean drunk or not.

Yes. I'd love to say it happened while catching babies they were throwing from the fourth floor of a three decker, but I tripped on a jack plate at a minor fire in a vacant office building. Good thing for steel toes, or I'd be out for the season for sure.
Visit the Doc today, see what the word is.

The agave syrup might be a challenge. Sounds way yummy.

Actually had no time for fishing - the waves were far too good to spend a whole day offshore - just picked a couple of yellowtail from the kayak. Mmmmm feesh tacos. :D Unfortunately, my friend who was the official east coast trip photographer left his camera containing all of our pics in our buddy's truck in San Diego. I'll post surf pics and viddies if/when he sends the cam.

You just simmer down nah and enjoy that Thai massage, meester.
For all intents and purposes you of all peeps could actually take advantage of my west coast heads up, what with being on the udder side of the Pacific and all (guess you're flying back westward from whence you came, though?). I was just funning you - sheesh - AMS and being laid up for a couple days makes for a testy PWDR8s! Hee hee hee - I said teste.
Get well, enjoy the rest of your trip and have a good trip back, dood.
