Stop the presses: The only real source for scientific weather forcasting has something to say:

Summary for the East = Variable. Great. I could'a told you that. I guess that means, "Keep the skis by the door and be ready to go at a moments notice"
So I guess we wait for this:
NOAA will issue an update for the January-February-March period and beyond on December 18, 2003. M@

They predict equal chances that it will be warmer or cooler than the average for the past 3 decades.
Coincidentally, they also predict equal chances that it will be wetter or drier than the average for the past 3 decades.

Jeeze, is NOAA afraid of commitment, or what?
I predict the following:
1: This winter will be colder and snowier than this past summer.
2: The days will be shorter than this past summer, but no shorter than they were last winter.
3: The nights will be darker than the days.
4: K-Mart will continue to overcharge.

there's a 100% chance of weather happening this winter, with a significant chance of it being warmer and colder depending on what month it is. there is also a 100% chance of snow occuring at one point or another, with variable times of extreme cold mixed in. with that said this years winter may or may not be similar to those conditions of winter past, depending on the eact geographic location.
i stand by my predictions...
Periods of day follow by night...
