I have heard that there is a big weekend when tons of people go to Tux and I am hoping that someone can tell me. I have hiked it a couple times but want to go with a group of people who have skied it before.
Thanks
Tim

ANY weekend in April, or May, will have lots of folks skiing. Seriously.
Check out the site's FAQs for more information:

If the local weather is nice, the crowds will be bigger! If the weather is so-so, there will still be a few hundreds of folks. Even if the weather is downright nasty, there will be a few dozens of folks in the area...mostly staying down low :D

It's usually the 3rd wknd for the Son of Inferno race day... it's a zoo then but fun.... other wknds before and after are usually busy and very fun..... REMEMBER: drive to Pinkham Notch early to get parking close to trailhead... otherwise you may be out on Rte 16.

Or beat the crowds by heading in on Thursday and walk out Saturday while everyone walking in. That is always a good time.

In general, it could go either way. Really, not being snide here. Best to to check the advisories and forecasts during the week leading up to your trip, and be prepared to alter your route or date accordingly. T4T has a link to the Tuckerman.org Avalanche Bulletin (see above and to the right).

thanks. I will certainly be checking those reports. Ideally I want to ski the upper snowfields and the Sherby, but it being my first Tucks trip and all I want to go when it is safest.

Ideally you'll want to ski something in between those as well. Really, you wake up and ask the caretakers what the conditions allow for that day. Plan for 2 weekends and at worst you ski during one of them.

the snowfields are the call when weekend crowds get silly and the snow in the bowl is well, the farthest from backcountry quality snow that you would ever imagine. i have so many times climbed to the snowfields for all day lapping then back down lionshead and out the sherbie to avoid boston traffic and constuction in the ravine. i like people and skiing but, i like people and perfect ski surfaces even better. have fun.
