Hey, this will be my first time doing tuckerman's and I have a few questions.
First off, was anyone there this weekend (5/31-6/1) and have a little report on how tucks is doing.
Secondly, what is the east snow fields? is that up at the summit?, how ski-able would they be next Saturday?
Finally, what would be my best bet to ski there?
ps. does any one have a recent pic of tucks:D
Make a weekend of it. That way you might get one decent day. And, if you are lucky, you get two decent days to cover both objectives.
Then, getting into the Ravine seems to be in order, as it is your first time. Left Gully might still be continuous...but it will have good vert even if it doesn't go T2B. Hillman's Highway isn't in the Ravine, but is a classic. It has the advantage of being fully visible from Hermit Lake.
The Rangers and MWVSP will give you the info they have...if they give warnings, pay heed! In that vein, any ice hanging on and the freeze/thaw loosened rocks will tumble down as the day heats up so no napping on the job! It really is an Alpine setting even though the altitude is limited.
East Snowfield:

Several folks have hiked up to the E.S. via the summer Lion's Head Trail but for $20 you can drive up and park quite close to them. If you get a 9:15-9:30AM start, there will be cars parked on the left 1/4 mile below the summit...park there and head South w/o loosing altitude.

i'll post a report from tuesday if weather allows. my intention is the road to summit, then go from there. if driving by on 16 shows a lot of snow gone in the snowfields then i'll probably walk towards the ravine where turns will be plentiful. lookin at this past weekends temps and warm precip and the heat wave late this coming week, ya bettah get on it soon as things are gonna go quickly.

im thinking about making a day on saturday the 7th as well. ive hiked tucks several times but never been outside the ravine. i will be alone so will gravitate to the ravine and what i know over the unkown.
suggestions for where to go and what to check out. id like to do hillmans but have no idea how much snow is left on it. im all for checking out the snowfields but not really sure how to get to em. alot of people have hit airplane this year but i think thats above what i need to be skiing solo.
oh and obviously because i am going solo i will have a limited amount of beer, sorry guys!

The Eastern Snow fields are easily accessible from the auto-road or via Lion's Head Trail. The Easties are great for solo skiers as they have a good, safe aspect and there are usually plenty of people enjoying the spring corn on any given day...especially this year!
I'm hoping to be there on Sunday, following a succesful Presidential Traverse on Saturday!

Who are your friends? Where are they from? If they are from Boston...it could be the same group. Couple of gals, Marcia and Steph, sort of did the planning and got everyone together. I met them at an Avy course in March. Any chance it's the same group?
